Opsio, a Swedish firm specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence solutions, has unveiled PrismIQ, an advanced visual inspection system designed to revolutionize defect detection in manufacturing. Launched initially in India, the technology is set to expand globally in the near future. PrismIQ integrates industrial cameras with deep-learning models specifically trained for each manufacturer’s products, targeting issues like surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional variations, and assembly errors during production.
The system’s edge hardware is installed directly on production lines, facilitating rapid inspection results without complete reliance on manual checks. Additionally, PrismIQ can interface with existing PLC and SCADA systems, enabling automated sorting and decision-making processes on the production line. The platform aims to overcome the challenges of manual inspections, particularly on high-speed manufacturing lines where it’s impractical to inspect every single product. Its active-learning system continually refines detection models by analyzing production data over time.
Unlike standalone vision software, PrismIQ is offered as a comprehensive service. Opsio manages the entire process, including camera, lens, and lighting setup, model development and validation, factory-system integration, and ongoing operations. The service package also features operator training, quality dashboards, and regular performance assessments. Typically, a PrismIQ implementation progresses from a feasibility study to full production deployment within a span of eight to twelve weeks.
The decision to launch in India first was influenced by the country’s burgeoning manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established operations there, including an AI Lab in Bengaluru dedicated to developing and testing industrial AI solutions. The technology is engineered at Opsio’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden. PrismIQ is initially targeting manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors, beginning with a feasibility study and a proof-of-concept using the manufacturer’s own product samples.
Daniel Hedlund, Chairman of Opsio, emphasized the importance of quality in scaling India’s manufacturing competitiveness on a global scale. Praveena Shenoy, Country Manager for Opsio India, expressed optimism that automated inspection will enable manufacturers to identify defects earlier, thereby enhancing quality control processes.
