Google Expands AI-Powered Gemini in Chrome to Android Users in India

Google has expanded its AI-powered Gemini in Chrome features to Android users in India, integrating artificial intelligence directly into the Chrome browser. This development allows users to access capabilities such as webpage summarization and connections with other Google services like Gmail and Calendar, along with image generation, all from their Android devices.

The Gemini in Chrome feature is designed to function as an AI assistant, providing a seamless browsing experience. Users can now benefit from a more advanced auto-browse feature, which is also being launched for desktop and Android users who subscribe to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra services. This feature enhances the AI’s capabilities, allowing it to perform multi-step web tasks, such as navigating websites and completing forms, making it easier for users to compare products, find deals, and even book event tickets or make restaurant reservations.

To ensure user safety, Google has implemented several safeguards to prevent potential risks from AI interactions with websites. Gemini is equipped to detect threats like prompt-injection attempts and requires user verification for sensitive actions, reflecting the importance of security in AI-driven transactions and task management.

The number of multi-step tasks users can execute through the auto-browse feature is determined by their subscription level. Google AI Pro subscribers are allowed up to 20 multi-step requests daily, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests. This tiered approach provides flexibility based on user needs and subscription plans.

By bringing these advanced AI capabilities to Chrome, Google is shifting the role of AI from simply answering queries to actively participating in task execution across the web. This expansion marks a significant step in integrating more agentic AI functions directly into users’ browsers, enhancing their ability to manage web-based activities more efficiently.
