Amit Shah Invites Opposition to Debate Vote Theft Claims in Parliament

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is prepared to hold a special session of Parliament to address the Opposition’s allegations of vote theft. This statement comes as Shah challenges Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav to substantiate their claims in Parliament, rather than through public demonstrations.

Speaking at a BJP state working committee meeting in Lucknow, Shah dismissed the accusations against the Election Commission as unfounded. He accused the Opposition of favoring street protests over engaging in parliamentary debates, specifically mentioning plans for significant demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. These protests are part of a broader Opposition strategy to challenge what they perceive as threats to democratic institutions.

The INDIA bloc, initially planning a symbolic public impeachment event at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence, postponed the event due to unseasonal rainfall. Instead, they are coordinating a major protest at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground. The Opposition has criticized the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, arguing that it might disadvantage certain voters and benefit the ruling BJP.

In his remarks, Shah also targeted the Congress and Samajwadi Party for their performance in recent elections, suggesting that their leaders have blamed the Election Commission for their electoral defeats. He defended the BJP’s political achievements and maintained that allegations of vote theft emerge primarily from those who have lost elections.
