As India continues to enhance its regional connectivity, the state of West Bengal is set to witness a significant development with the establishment of a new airport in Purulia district. This initiative, part of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, aims to bolster air connectivity and drive economic growth in the region.
On September 28, the West Bengal government will formalize an agreement with the central government to initiate the construction of this airport. According to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the preparations for the project have been completed, and the state has already applied for the necessary licenses. An official from the civil aviation authorities has been actively involved in the discussions, ensuring that the project aligns with the regulatory requirements.
The new airport is expected to significantly enhance Purulia’s connectivity with other parts of India, providing a boost to tourism, infrastructure, and industrial development in the district. The strategic location of the airport could serve as a catalyst for attracting investments in various sectors.
In addition to the airport project, the West Bengal government is actively seeking substantial investments in Purulia. Prospective sectors for development include defense, steel, cement, and solar energy. Chief Minister Adhikari anticipates that these initiatives could attract investments amounting to approximately ₹1 lakh crore over the next year, signaling a potential economic transformation for the district.
