BJP to Hold Rallies in Assam Against Congress’s Democratic Criticism

In a move aimed at countering opposition narratives, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a series of rallies by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) across the state from October 13 to October 31. These rallies, planned at district headquarters, are intended to bolster support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reinforce public confidence in constitutional institutions.

Speaking in Guwahati, Sarma accused the Congress party of attempting to undermine democratic institutions, specifically targeting their criticisms of the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. He described Congress’s actions as politically motivated attempts to challenge the legitimacy of these institutions.

The chief minister also addressed Congress’s opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He argued that the revision process is crucial for addressing issues related to voter lists and illegal immigration, which have been significant concerns in Assam.

Sarma did not hold back in his critique of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of hypocrisy by allegedly applying different standards to election results based on the winning party. He further criticized Gandhi’s approach towards the Supreme Court, emphasizing that constitutional institutions should remain free from political influence.

The BJP’s planned rallies are positioned as a show of support for democratic institutions, contrasting with what they view as Congress’s detrimental approach to electoral and constitutional matters. This announcement comes amid ongoing political tensions between the BJP and Congress over electoral processes and institutional independence in Assam.
