Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, have refuted recent claims that suggest India has turned down a proposal for a fast-track trade agreement with the United States. Both officials described these reports as “false” and “misleading,” emphasizing the ongoing positive dialogue between the two nations.
Goyal highlighted the productive nature of recent discussions with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, underlining the shared commitment of India and the US to forge a balanced and mutually advantageous trade agreement. Aligning with Goyal’s sentiments, Sergio Gor characterized the discussions as constructive, noting the active engagement from both sides.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal provided additional insights, stating that the negotiations are progressing smoothly. He mentioned that the framework for the agreement is already in place, with both India and the United States waiting for the right moment to finalize and sign the deal.
From the US perspective, officials have conveyed optimism about the prospects of reaching an interim trade agreement in the near future. They emphasized the ongoing cooperation between New Delhi and Washington, indicating a strong bilateral relationship aimed at enhancing trade ties.
