In a bid to bolster economic ties, India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. These meetings were aimed at enhancing trade and investment links between India and Finland.
The dialogue centered on increasing collaboration in pivotal sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, and research and development. There was a particular emphasis on fostering partnerships among startups and businesses. Both India and Finland expressed interest in exploring joint opportunities in cutting-edge technological fields like artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, and space, as well as focusing on sustainable practices.
A significant aspect of these discussions was the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The two countries deliberated on how this agreement could serve as a catalyst for boosting bilateral trade, drawing in investments, and opening up new avenues for enterprises in both nations.
This initiative comes against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between India and the European Union, aimed at finalizing a comprehensive trade agreement. Such a pact is expected to fortify economic relations and enhance cooperation across various strategic sectors, further integrating the two economies.
