IndiGo Increases Fuel Surcharges Amid Rising Aviation Fuel Costs

IndiGo is set to implement new fuel charges on both domestic and international flights, affecting bookings made from October 6, 2026. This decision comes in response to a significant rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, which have increased by over 14% month-on-month, adding pressure to the airline’s operating expenses.

The revised fuel surcharges will vary according to flight distance. For domestic flights, the charges will start at ₹375 for trips up to 500 km and go up to ₹1,300 for flights exceeding 2,000 km. Specifically, flights covering up to 1,000 km will incur a ₹600 charge, those between 1,001 and 1,500 km will be charged ₹900, and routes up to 2,000 km will have a ₹1,150 surcharge.

International flights will also see adjustments. Routes within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) up to 500 km will see a ₹1,000 fuel charge, while longer SAARC routes will face a ₹3,000 charge. Flights to Southeast Asia, the Gulf, the Middle East, North Asia, and East Asia will have a ₹5,500 surcharge, while those to Africa will face ₹6,000, and trips to Europe will incur a ₹10,000 fee.

IndiGo has stated that these adjustments aim to partially offset the increased operating costs without overly burdening passengers. The airline emphasized its commitment to monitoring fuel prices and market conditions to make necessary adjustments in the future.
