Putin to discuss economic collaboration at BRICS summit in New Delhi.

India, currently at the helm of the BRICS organization, is gearing up to host the annual summit in September, marking a significant event on its diplomatic calendar. The gathering will take place in New Delhi from September 12 to 13, featuring the attendance of prominent global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has confirmed his participation in the summit.

President Putin’s visit to India for the BRICS summit signifies another chapter in the ongoing diplomatic engagements between the two nations. His presence in New Delhi will be complemented by a scheduled bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, planned to occur on the sidelines of the summit. This upcoming event marks Putin’s return to India since his last visit in December 2025, when he participated in the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.

Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov laid the groundwork for this diplomatic event by joining a two-day conclave in New Delhi, which included representatives from the BRICS member countries. The bloc, initially composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has undergone significant expansion in recent years. In 2024, the alliance welcomed Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, with Indonesia joining the ranks in 2025.

The inclusion of these new members has elevated BRICS into a formidable global platform, representing 11 leading emerging economies. Together, these nations account for nearly 49.5% of the world’s population, approximately 40% of global GDP, and around 26% of international trade. The summit in New Delhi promises to be a pivotal gathering, reinforcing the bloc’s influence and fostering cooperation among its varied members.
