Minister Rijiju Highlights Economic Ties, Tribute to Qatar’s Father Amir

Kiren Rijiju, India’s Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, recently traveled to Doha to express India’s condolences over the death of Qatar’s Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. This visit highlighted the deep-rooted and strong relations that have long existed between India and Qatar.

In Doha, Rijiju had a meeting with Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where he delivered messages of sympathy and support from the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rijiju praised the late Father Amir as a visionary figure instrumental in Qatar’s development and in fortifying the strategic ties between the two nations. He noted the profound sense of loss felt by the Indian community in Qatar, who hold the late Amir in high esteem for his contributions.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier paid homage to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, recognizing him as a genuine ally of India and acknowledging his efforts in enhancing bilateral relations. Modi’s tribute underscored the significance of the Father Amir’s role in fostering a strong bond between the two countries.

As a gesture of respect and mourning, India observed a national day of mourning on July 13, 2026. On this day, the national flag was flown at half-mast on all government buildings, and official entertainment activities were suspended, reflecting the gravity of the occasion.

Kiren Rijiju’s visit to Doha serves as a testament to the close diplomatic ties between India and Qatar, emphasizing the value both nations place on their enduring partnership. This relationship is anchored in mutual respect and shared interests, further solidified by such gestures of condolence and solidarity during times of loss.
