The Aftermath: Rebuilding Gaza Under a New Political Framework

As the dust of war potentially settles, the colossal task of rebuilding Gaza will begin, this time under a new political framework. The peace deal accepted by Hamas on Saturday, which includes a technocratic government, aims to create the conditions necessary for a massive, internationally-backed reconstruction effort.
The scale of the devastation is immense, with infrastructure, homes, hospitals, and schools laid to waste. Rebuilding will require a sustained, multi-billion dollar commitment from the international community. In the past, such efforts have been hampered by concerns that aid could be diverted by Hamas.
The new political framework is designed to overcome this obstacle. A government of independent technocrats, supported by Arab nations and operating transparently, would provide donors with the confidence that their funds will be used for civilian purposes. This new body would be responsible for planning and overseeing the entire reconstruction process.
Beyond physical rebuilding, there is the challenge of social and psychological recovery. The population of Gaza has endured immense trauma. The new government, along with international NGOs, will need to prioritize mental health services, education, and job creation to help heal the wounds of war.
The success of this reconstruction effort will be a critical test for the new political framework. If the technocratic government can deliver tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Gazans, it will build the legitimacy and support needed to ensure a lasting peace. The aftermath of this war presents not just a challenge, but an opportunity to build a better future for Gaza.
