Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory Amid Diwali Rush: Routes to Avoid and Diversions Announced

With festive shopping and celebrations in full swing, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory to help commuters navigate the city amid the Diwali rush. Traffic movement across several routes has slowed due to heavy congestion, ongoing road repairs, and festive market crowds.
Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and use navigation apps to avoid traffic bottlenecks. The police have also urged residents to check live traffic updates on the official @dtptraffic handle on X (formerly Twitter) before heading out.
To manage the increased movement, all traffic personnel are on duty, and additional motorcycle teams have been deployed across the city.
According to the latest advisory, traffic at Bhera Enclave Chowk is being diverted after a large pothole emerged on the main road. Vehicles from Vikaspuri are being redirected through the underpass towards Peeragarhi, while those from Jwala Heri are being diverted towards GH-14.
On Mathura Road, traffic heading from Badarpur to Ashram Chowk is also affected after a bus breakdown near the NFC Red Light caused heavy congestion.
Special arrangements have been made near popular market areas such as Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, and Connaught Place, where festive crowds are expected to be the highest. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones are being removed on the spot to ensure smoother flow.
Commuters are urged to cooperate with authorities and follow traffic regulations to make travel safer and more convenient during the festive season.
